Cardinal Scratching the Perch

I thought I’d share with you another portrait of the Northern Cardinal made during the cold days of winter.
It’s called “Cardinal Scratching the Perch”. The frame is taken in my backyard as this Cardinal is a regular visitor to the birdfeeders.

Cardinals, as perching birds, developed a toe pointing backwards to easier grasp perches. You can observe this characteristic on its right foot.
